Our Stories
Diversity![]() Sisters Nurturing Sisters referred me to a transitional housing facility that accepted me knowing I had no means of support, no ID, my head sick, no medical insurance and no one that was willing to take me in; these was just some of the issues I had. I am happy to find SNS. I want to learn to speak, read, write and understand English better. They are working on arranging this for me. I am very happy now!
BenevolenceS.B. - Originally from Illinois, married and moved out of state. Divorced with an infant, no viable income or help from the community...SNS called. I thank Allah for sister Habibah.
Mubeenah - I got with Sisters Nurturing Sisters when I lived in Columbus, OH. I had just got out of a bad marriage and things weren't going good. I contacted them for information on what it is that they do. After explaining my situation they purchased a bus ticket for me to come to Chicago. After arriving, Sister Habibah helped me tremendously. I appreciate everything SNS done for me in the past and if I ever needed anything, Sis. Dorothy Collins (a.k.a. Habibah) would be the first person I'd contact. |
Empowerment![]() SNS make sure I make it to my doctor's appointment, teach me how to feel better about myself, helped me to obtain my state ID and how to budget. Oh, SNS helped me get some clothes also and I am happy!
E.- I called on SNS when I was homeless. I was alone and oh Lord so confused (I will tell u about it). I have some mental issues I have to deal with daily. I grew up in an abusive foster home. I was abused in such a way I thought an abusive relationship meant 'I love you'. I was confused and extremely depressed. I really want to thank the case management team from Sisters Nurturing Sisters for the patience and guidance that was provided me because I was a hand-full. I don't know if I'll ever be able to live by myself but they make me feel as if I can. Maybe I will some day. For right now, I have a family that cares and stands by me-even when I don't. They said they’ll be there when I need them and they were and still are. They told me I'd soon be able to travel on public transportation and now I can. They helped me get my head together and now I know who I am. Hope While I was in a place in Chicago that I wished to get out of Sisters Nurturing sisters facilitated my leave from there. They provided me with the following: monetary gift, contact information of a woman whom I had a possibility to stay with, a ride to her home and followed up with me. I now have a sense of my destiny and direction. I feel grateful to Habibah Dorothy Collins for having the faith of Islam that contributes to the efforts of humanity to reach Peace and Equality. Neda I really don't have words to express my gratitude at the moment...I've been down and out; in desperate NEED and SNS came through. I'm in tears at this moment. I'm so happy and thank Allah for sister Habibah. M.M. |
